Nutrition Services
Program
MDSCAA's Senior Services division offers three main food/nutrition programs within its service area (Delta, Menominee and Schoolcraft counties):
Congregate Meals (Senior Centers)
Participants must be 60 years or older. They must fill out a registration form annually. For congregate diets the same menu as HDM is used.

Carry-Out Meals (COM)
Participants must be 60 years or older. They must fill out a registration form annually. For COM diets the same menu as HDM is used.

Home-Delivered Meals (HDM)
For residents age 60+ who are homebound and unable to leave home unassisted or prepare a nutritious meal. Eligible participants must complete an assessment within 14 days of starting. A re-assessment is required every 6 months.
Added Bonus
HDM meals serve dual roles: nutrition + wellness check (driver/aide can check to make sure things are ok at home when dropping off meals).

Cost/Donation
Suggested donation: $4.50 per meal for Congregate, Carry-Out Meals and Home-Delivered Meals.

Important- Nobody is ever denied service due to an inability to pay.

Benefits & Service Locations
There programs improve nutrition, promote wellness, reduce isolation and support older adults to remain independent.

Meal sites cover many senior centers across the three counties (Delta, Menominee & Schoolcraft).
Food Distribution
Services
Throughout the year, Senior Services provides food distribution through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). Eligibility for the programs is based on household income. These programs are food-supplement oriented and can be used by anyone, regardless of age.
TEFAP
Distribution is through open pantries: MDSCAA operates three open TEFAP pantries (Escanaba Senior Center, Hermansville Senior Center, and Gladstone Senior Center, Rapid River Omni Center) and works with Feeding America West Michigan mobile pantries. MDSCAA also runs a separate, private pantry through the Hermansville Pantry for those in that area.
