"It raises funds but (it) also raises awareness that some of your friends and your neighbors might need help with their energy assistance and their heating, especially as we prepare for winter." -Gary Willoughby, Executive Director, MDSCAA

Abby LaForest of My UP News interviewed our Executive Director Gary Willoughby about our upcoming Walk for Warmth events in Menominee, Delta and Schoolcraft Counties. These will be the first Walk for Warmth events that MDSCAA's Client Services Program has hosted since the pandemic began in 2020.

Gary explains how many of our neighbors can be impacted by a large heat bill that they do not have the resources for, and the mitigation techniques people use. But he also goes on to highlight that the Walk for Warmth events are a direct a response to that issue. Whether its wood for a stove, furnace oil, or a utility bill, the funds raised by a Walk stay in the county it was held in, to help those experiencing heating emergencies.
